An economical, DIY-friendly horizontal windlass built around a smaller, more efficient permanent magnet motor — a direct drop-in replacement for the older Simpson-Lawrence/Lewmar Horizon 400 & 500.

Why It's Worth It
Instead of the heavier series-wound motor and worm gearbox found in larger Lewmar windlasses, the Pro-Sport uses a spur gearbox paired with a smaller, more powerful permanent magnet motor — lower current draw, superior line speed, and a simpler one-piece installation. The rugged aluminum center case with composite side covers keeps weight and cost down without sacrificing durability, and the port-side mounted gypsy matches the mounting hole pattern of the older Horizon 400/500, making this an easy upgrade swap.

Use
Fits 1/4" G4 or BBB chain (7mm DIN 766 equivalent) with 1/2" 3-strand or 8-plait rope. Designed for boats up to 28' (9m). Minimum recommended deck thickness is 1" (25mm); use a backing plate if your deck is thinner. Manual freefall lets you drop anchor quickly without waiting on the motor.
