Why It's Worth It
The two-speed gearbox gives you a high gear for quick trimming and a low gear (44.8:1 power ratio) for grinding in heavy loads, with a working load limit nearly 900 lbs higher than the 40ST. The Wavespring self-tailing jaws accept up to 9/16" line at this size, wider than the smaller models — relevant if you're running larger-diameter sheets or halyards. Lewmar's design lets you service the winch with no tools: unscrew the top cap by hand to access the drum and center stem. The chrome bronze finish gives this version a classic, polished look at the cost of roughly 5.5 lbs more than the aluminum equivalent.
