A second-generation solid-state electronic compass that delivers precise, stable heading, rate of turn, and vessel attitude data to your NMEA 2000 network and NMEA 0183 devices simultaneously — without any moving parts to wear or fail.

Why It's Worth It
Fluxgate compasses are accurate in calm conditions but notoriously unreliable in rough seas, hard turns, or at high speed — exactly when you need heading most. The SSC300 uses a 3-axis rate gyro working alongside a 3-axis accelerometer and 3-axis magnetometer, fused by advanced digital stabilization algorithms, to maintain better than 1.5° accuracy even in dynamic conditions. It updates heading data 10 times per second (adjustable up to 40 times per second), and it continues working accurately through ±45° of roll and pitch — making it equally at home on a heeled-over sailboat or a planing powerboat in a chop. Each unit ships factory calibrated; in-boat deviation calibration (with a Maretron display or N2KAnalyzer) fine-tunes it to the vessel's specific magnetic environment.

Use
Connects to NMEA 2000 via a standard Micro-C connector, and to NMEA 0183 simultaneously via an optional 10m cable accessory (MARE-004-1M-7, sold separately). Mount as level as possible, oriented with the arrow pointing toward the bow, near the vessel's center of gravity, and away from power cables and ferrous metals. Can be mounted horizontally, vertically, or upside down. After installation, perform rate-of-turn zeroing, installation-offset correction, and magnetic deviation calibration in that order — using a Maretron DSM display or N2KAnalyzer software. Configures via Maretron DSM150, DSM250, DSM410, or N2KAnalyzer.
