Why It's Worth It
PWM controllers waste whatever voltage difference exists between the panel and the battery — a 20V panel charging a 12V battery effectively throws away 8V of potential. MPPT controllers eliminate that waste by constantly tracking the panel's maximum power point and converting it to the highest current the battery can accept, which is why this controller delivers 20-30% more daily energy harvest than a PWM equivalent with the same panels. The dual battery bank output is a genuinely useful marine feature: Battery 1 (house bank) gets the full 30A MPPT charge, while Battery 2 (starter/engine battery) gets a 1A maintenance charge simultaneously — no separate trickle charger needed. At 98% DC/DC conversion efficiency and 99.5% MPPT algorithm efficiency, it loses almost nothing in the conversion process. Natural convection cooling means no fan to wear out or clog with salt air.

Use
Auto-detects 12V or 24V battery systems. Compatible with all makes and types of solar panels. For lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries, the temperature compensation feature should not be used — temperature compensation is for lead-acid chemistry only. An optional remote battery temperature sensor (lead-acid only) and optional remote panel are available separately. Recommended cable size is 10 AWG or larger for both PV array and battery connections.
