A true sine wave inverter, multi-stage battery charger, 50A transfer relay, and 48V-to-12V DC converter in one box — purpose-built for 48V battery systems on boats that want shore power capability, generator supplement, and onboard AC power without separate components for each function.

Why It's Worth It
Most inverter/chargers are built around 12V or 24V systems — the Freedom EX 4000 is specifically engineered for 48V, which is increasingly common on boats running large lithium battery banks, electric drives, or bow thrusters at this voltage. The integrated 48V-to-12V DC converter (45A) handles all the 12V loads onboard without a separate DC-DC converter, and the 50A transfer relay switches between inverter output and shore power or generator input automatically. The load management feature is a standout: when shore power or generator power is connected, the EX 4000 draws from AC input first and supplements from the battery bank only when loads temporarily exceed available AC — a true hybrid power management approach rather than simple pass-through. Three units can be stacked in parallel for 12kW of continuous AC power, or two in series for split-phase 240V output.

Use
Designed for 48V DC battery systems — flooded, gel, AGM, lithium-ion, or custom. The charger is highly configurable for lithium chemistry with adjustable bulk, absorption, and float voltages. An ignition control input lets you switch the inverter on/off via a 12V signal — convenient for installations where you want the inverter tied to the engine's ignition or a dedicated enable circuit. Communicates via RV-C CAN protocol for integration with third-party MFDs and software. An optional Bluetooth Remote Panel (808-0817-03) and battery temperature sensor (808-0232-01) are sold separately.
