Why It's Worth It
Building an NMEA 2000 network from scratch means sourcing a backbone cable, power tap, two terminators, tees for each device, and drop cables — parts that are easy to get wrong in combination if you're not familiar with the format distinctions. This kit takes the guesswork out of a two-device starter network: every component is Micro-format Maretron, confirmed compatible, and sized for boats 40' and under where Micro cable is the standard. Gold-plated brass contacts and nickel-plated brass couplings hold up to saltwater exposure better than plated steel alternatives. Expanding the network later is straightforward — add one tee and one drop cable per additional device.

Use
The 10M Micro cable forms the backbone trunk. The Powertap tee injects power into the trunk from your boat's 12V fused supply — fuse the NMEA 2000 supply at 3A. Two Male Terminators cap each end of the trunk. Each device gets a Tee tapped into the trunk, with a 2M drop cable connecting the tee to the device. To add more devices later: add one Tee and one drop cable per device — no other components needed.
