Why It's Worth It
Every NMEA 2000 device on the network — GPS, engine monitors, fuel flow sensors, wind instruments, tank sensors, AIS — generates a continuous stream of data that normally disappears the moment it's displayed. The VDR100 captures all of it to a removable USB flash drive using a circular buffer, so the most recent data is always preserved even when the drive fills up. Pull the drive, plug it into a PC or Mac, run Maretron's free N2KExtractor software, and export any parameter across any time range to a .csv file for analysis in Excel or any spreadsheet program. An optional Ethernet LAN port lets you access and download data remotely over a local network without physically pulling the drive — useful on larger vessels where the VDR is mounted in a hard-to-reach location.

Use
Installs anywhere on the NMEA 2000 network via a single Micro-C connector. Can be mounted horizontally, vertically, or upside down — orientation doesn't matter. Mount away from engines where temperatures may exceed 131°F (55°C). For fully waterproof installation, the optional USB waterproof cover (PX0852) must be fitted; the NMEA 2000 connector is already waterproof. The supplied 16GB USB drive holds weeks of data; larger drives (formatted to Ext4 for drives 32GB+) can hold a year or more at a 25% loaded network.
